Do you love getting name brand items at bargain prices? A few months ago, we published an article that covers the basics of doing just that. We love to help consumers win over the sellers, whether that means shopping on eBay or just knowing how to spot a good deal.
However, there was one method we didn’t touch on back in September: private shopping clubs. A private shopping club is a group that offers exclusive deals on (usually) high-priced items to members only.
The idea of private shopping clubs isn’t new. They’ve been around for decades. However, online private shopping clubs are relatively new. You can find designer furniture, couture clothing, and luxury hotels for a bargain through private shopping clubs. The best thing is that membership for many of these clubs is relatively cheap – or free!
If you’re a fashionista, consider signing up for Gilt Groupe, a private shopping club that carries all the name brands you’d see in Saks 5th Avenue or Neiman Marcus. Gilt City, a child company of Gilt Groupe, offers similar deals in major cities around the country (just like Groupon or Living Social).
If you’re looking for home items or furniture, try out One Kings Lane, where you can often score designer furniture for half the suggested retail price. One Kings Lane alerts you of the sale through a confidential email, and then you have the chance to pull the trigger and buy for just a limited time.
Love to travel? Jetsetter (another Gilt Groupe subsidiary) might be for you! This shopping club is invite-only, so start searching for your “in”! The website operates on the same “flash sale” model that many other private shopping clubs use.
Have you ever used a private shopping club? If so, how would you rate the experience? Leave your comments in the comment section below for other Complaints List readers!Back To All Consumer Resources
