SCAM ARTISTS - DO NOT BUY

Received un-boxed modem that my cable tech laughed at. He said, “I bet you got this online from ownyourownmodem”!

It came wrapped in a USPS bag. No box. Unreal.

Obviously been bought and sold a ton of times. The back port was so loose it could be pulled out. Pure junk.

Contacted the people selling this garbage out of their trunk, and they were rude, denying everything, and making me pay to ship it back so they can look at it.

Then they disappear, and don’t answer anyone. I sent it back with a signature required.

Otherwise goodbye money.

Paypal investigated and issued an immediate refund to me.

They should ban these people.

RESPONSE:

Buyer has not provided a valid name or any invoice showing that their transaction with our company is even valid, please provide such proof per legal responsibility.

Buyer states that the Tech made the statement, ““I bet you got this online from ownyourownmodem!” Please provide any proof that a tech made such a negative statement regarding our company and that this info is not made up or heresay.

Buyer claims, “The back port was so loose it could be pulled out. Pure junk.” Please confirm any pictures or proof of said damage.

Buyer claims, “Contacted the people selling this garbage out of their trunk, and they were rude, denying everything, and making me pay to ship it back so they can look at it.” Please provide any such proof of our company being “rude” to validate such a claims.

Buyer claims, “Paypal investigated and issued an immediate refund to me.” Please provide any such proof of third party Paypal dispute and how the dispute was resolved?

So here we have a buyer who does not provide a name or any proof of transaction and make many outrageous claims of which he has provided no support or proof. We would like to look into the matter to resolve the issues if there is any merit to any of these claims, or will be pursuing legal action for ComplaintList allowing such postings to be made public without providing any credentials for such serious claims. Wow, I almost placed and order, stopped and decided to google reviews others may have posted for BuyYourOwnModem. Glad I didn’t place an order

I was considering buying a pricey modem from this company, and then read the reviews. It is not so much the reviews that left a bad taste, it was THEIR (BYOM’s) responses. Wow, I was shocked at the way they handle complaints and criticisms. Very unprofessional, immature, and defensive. They attacked the posters/complainants, which is a major “no, no” in customer service and good business practices. There weren’t any “we are really sorry, we would like to correct things, as we value your patronage, please contact us again with details, transaction & product information, so we can make it right… Read more »
We appreciate your blog post as this is a complaint from a customer who confirms they have never even mad an order from our company? We also sell on Amazon and Ebay and have won awards for high customer service rankings on those sites so again it is hard to assist you if you never have even made a purchase and instead treated the review process like it was your blog which discredits the value of customer review sites if they are filled with people who never even purchased from the company they are reviewing? We would love your business… Read more »
I can promise you that you certainly were not charged a 30% restocking fee as that is not truthful information, although if you purchase the wrong item and then send it back we do charge a 20% restocking fee plus original shipping costs to help cover our costs of shipping you an item that we in good faith have assumed you have performed the proper research is what you need. These terms are presented to you at time of checkout and must be accepted in order to complete checkout as we are very upfront with it so customers will double… Read more »

Had to return this modem (with a 30% restocking fee) and the customer service went downhill fast. It was actually my error that I had to return the modem but the customer service was so horrible and mean, and actually threatened to sue me if I posted a negative review! There is definitely something sketchy with this vendor. Have you noticed that only positive reviews appear on their website, but that they have a D+ rating with the BBB and have tons of complaints everywhere else online? I would never recommend this company.

Haven’t been ripped off in a while. Guess I have to call my credit card company tomorrow. I ordered a modem and got it wrapped in 2 plastic bags. No box. Not one single piece of paper. They told someone they needed an invoice??? Well, I didn’t get one. I read THEIR REVIEWS and thought they must be great because there wasn’t a single negative one. THAT should have been a red flag. Emailed them yesterday and NOW I understand why I haven’t heard from them.

If you don’t contact us then we can’t help you as yest we have OVER 2000 POSITIVE REVIEWS from customers and as most of these cases show the buyer was unwilling to resolve or contact or read description. However, we do send out an invoice to the email you provide at time of checkout as it is an automated system. We do use Priority padded flat rate padded envelopes and do offer free shipping as we haven’t hadn’t many problems and don’t see that you said the item was damaged in anyway, but just that you didn’t like what it… Read more »

I purchased a new router for Verizon and received a used one. The activation failed and Verizon said it was faulty. Through this process customer service was bad and I was forced to use PayPal’s escalation service to get my money back. Did I mention this company does not provide a pre-paid return label?

Buyer is being dishonest as the following is taken right from the items description. Also, this item is $150 from Verizon and was priced at $80 so we in know way listed it nor priced it to be new, but we back it up just the same. Item is in quality refurbished condition with warranty and includes: – G1100 Verizon/Frontier Fios Modem – Power Cord – Ethernet cord – Stand Buyer was provided with return instructions to return the item for a refund and was told we would even provide a label if we were doing a replacement, but again,… Read more »
The modem I received worked, but it was clearly used (didn’t see that in the description). The directions that came with it fill an entire page and emphatically point out that you need to call your cable provider over and over and over in order to make the modem work. This is def.ly not the fault of buyyourownmodem, but it is a wake up call for those who are maybe not so tech savvy, or don’t have 5 (I’m not exaggerating) hours to sit on the phone with the cable company. ALSO, if you already own a modem for your… Read more »

We are very sorry that you thought you could purchase 2 modems to use with 1 internet service as per our terms and conditions that we do present and require you to accept in order to complete checkout we do charge a restocking fee for those who do not perform the proper research before purchase as the we do cover our costs for shipping the item to you in good faith that it is an item you need and employees who have to process the return have refused to work for free.

This is certainly a cleaned up version of what was actually sent to me from this company. Their customer service is beyond rude and borders on harassment. As you can see, I took responsibility for my error in my post above; everything in it is factual. Here are some actual excerpts from emails showing this ‘customer service’ in response to this one post (above): “…So you order a modem thinking you can get a 2 for 1 on internet service from our provider and then blame us because we didn’t put that in the items description as the fact that… Read more »
As is usually the case in these reviews there is facts left out such as notice that the customer in this case leaves out all of here side of what she is claiming??? The customer sent us this email before finding out that the real reason she was having problems was because you cannot simply hook up 2 modems when your only paying for one internet package. 1.”I followed all of your instructions to the T but the phone does not connect (the modem is online). I have spent 4 hours on the phone with Comcast and I am about… Read more »

This is a scam. They selling all broken, defective and stolen items. The five star ratings they showing is a lie. I got a broken and used modem and not working. Beware of this site and don’t buy anything from them or you will regret. They charging re stocking fees in all cases.

We have sold TENS OF THOUSANDS of modems to customers all over the country and have THOUSANDS OF POSITIVE reviews from customers so I can assure you the reviews are no lie. We actually offer a 60 day return for refund policy and a 6 month replacement warranty policy which is one of the best in the industry and do not charge a restocking in the rare event that an item is returned and tested to be defective and so unfortunately although you may be upset the complaint is misleading and not truthful and often times there are 2 sides… Read more »

MODEM WAS JUST WANT I NEEDED FOR COMCAST!

I bought this modem from Ownyourmodem and it works great! Came with the easy set up instructions and Comcast put up a little resistance but I stuck with it and after a phone call or two am now up and running with the help of Ownyourmodem. Comcast is the issue here folks!

We are happy that you took the time to post a positive review and most people only take the time to leave a negative one so the whole review system is skewed. However, indeed Comcast is a common factor in the issues here as is proven by the FCC stepping in and issuing them a fine of millions of dollars for their poor business practices in customers trying to use their own equipment at times.

As of 10/23/15, these folks are still in business. I consider myself internet savvy and I fell hook, line and sinker. I have a receipt that says I purchased a “new” modem. I got an obviously used modem that Xfinity says is leased from them and reported stolen. No one from ownyourcablemodem is contacting me. Don’t use Paypal, they take straight credit card. I disputed it with Chase, who says they’ll have to prove me wrong to turn the dispute around, and they can’t, because the thing is a registered Comcast modem. This crew obviously counts on most of their… Read more »
Very sorry to hear that your having problems with Comcast. Legally, they would need to provide the signed lease agreement that you agreed to with this modems serial number showing you they own this unit and that it was issued to you as a rental. Unfortunately Comcast is running the scam here and they have already been called out and fined by the FCC before for this and so I would bring this to their attention as they are already on probation for this business practice and I would advise them that if they are not going to provide the… Read more »

I purchased a modem from “ownyourcablemodem.” Xfinity installer told me that the modem was stolen property and I could not use it.

First of all, WE ACCEPT ALL RETURNS within the time frame listed on our accepted return policy. However, we are ery sorry to hear that your having problems with Comcast. I just had the scam done on me with these people. I can’t believe I fell for this. I tried to call several times once I was told by Comcast that this modem will not work. No one returned my calls but they did respond to me email. My email was nice I just stated that I will need to return the product and they were completely unprofessional and rude! They basically told me it’s my fault that I should not have contacted Comcast directly. They are my provider! Then I did a Paypal dispute and they sent me another… Read more »

You never stated what your actual issue is but if Comcast is your provider then you would need to contact them for troubleshooting as they are the ones that activate the unit for you. As for being rude, please provide any such evidence that you say was provided via email and we would be happy to look into it as we aren’t sure if someone was in fact rude or if the response may have unintentionally offended you?

DON’T BUY FROM THIS COMPANY…..NEW NAME….DON’TLEASEYOURMODEM…. MAJOR RIP-OFF

You never stated what your actual problem is and so we are not able to assist you and we don’t show a valid customer under the name provided?

I am new to the club and feel like a fool for not having done my research before buying from this people. The sold me a modem that after a month started to smell like body odor. They told me to wipe it down! The told me to send it back for a replacement after several arrogant emails and I explained I could not e without internet while waiting for the replacement and for them to send me the replacement first and then I would return the original. Their response was literally “that is not going to happen”. I have… Read more »

It sounds like we more than happy to issue a replacement but unfortunately we do require that items are returned before we issue a replacement to confirm an item is defective as otherwise sending a replacement won’t resolve the issue if not. You stated that you didn’t want to send it back because it was working but you wanted a replacement sent out while the working modem was installed so you wouldn’t lose service? Sounds a little strange…..

The DPC3939 Cisco modems that they are selling are stolen devices and therefore, Comcast is refusing to provide services via these stolen units, even if the consumer pays for the device.

Very sorry to hear that your having problems with Comcast.
