Is Europcar a Scam, Rip Off, or Fraud? WARN OTHER CONSUMERS By Sharing

Scam - Avoid at all costs!

We rented a car on the site with Europcar. The rental was for less than 24-hours. The car was picked up in Trieste, Italy and was to be dropped off at Venice Mestre the next day.

Upon our pick up, the contract noted that we will drop off the car in Venice at 14:00. It was also clearly stated by the customer service representative in Trieste.

The next day when we arrived before 14:00, the Mestre Europcar office was already closed. We were not advised of this.

We looked for a drop box, parking lot – or anything! Eventually, we had to leave the car and we put the keys under the door of the office. We later learned that the office CLOSED AT 12:30 that day.

Europcar then charged us for TWO DAYS of rental, as they did not return to their office until that Monday. We wrote to them and explained the situation. They showed no remorse for the lack of communication on their end.

A month later, three additional credit card authorization requests showed up on our card. Two of them canceled each other out, but now (a month later), they have charged us an additional $123 USD. Our initial rental was for $61 USD. Our charges for their mistake now total $246 USD.

I filed a dispute with our credit card company, and also had to put of stop on future authorizations from Europcar. This dispute will probably go on for a couple months to see what happens.

Europcar is sloppy. Their customer service is terrible. It is impossible to reach anyone by phone. Emailing them results in responses between two to four weeks later. They are blaming the customer for their shortcomings.

Avoid at all costs!
