Taking people money - Duke Energy

My parents are elderly and both are ill. My mother received her bill for March; $98. She had someone pay the bill by check over the phone; confirmation number was given.

She received a delinquent notice stating – check returned, bank didn’t pay, informing her, the bill for March wasn’t received.

When we went to the bank to check the accounts, no check had been processed and money was in the account.

I called Duke Energy, they claimed check was returned but, bank had no receipt of check return. We then went and paid for the balance from March and for the month of April’s remaining balance; both due first week of April.

Duke Energy sent another bill saying payments were delinquent but, receipt for both payments have been paid.

She just received another bill for month of April.
